This traditional Kenyan product has been hand crafted by local women of Kenya for decades. The butter is extracted from the nuts of the Shea tree that grow across Africa. It has grown in popularity in the cosmetics industry in the past decade. Similar in makeup to that of Cocoa butter, Shea butter is a healthy option for your body and skin. Rich in vitamins A, E & F, this butter is full of nutrients that aid in the production of collagen. It is considered one of the best skin nourishing ingredients hence its popularity in body butters and massage, it melts wonderfully into the skin. The sustainable story of Shea butter production is its greatest asset, providing solely women with a secured income for their family. The women will harvest, clean and press the nuts themselves (within their community) and then given the chance to negotiate their own price before it arrives in Europe. This raw material has made significant positive impacts on communities within Kenya and delivering a new and stronger infrastructure in so many communities that were in need.

While both West African and East African (Nilotica) Shea Butter offers impressive benefits, East African Nilotica Shea Butter possesses a higher olein content and is softer, creamier and sweeter in aroma than West African Shea Butter. 

This Butter is sourced ethically and sustainably, from fair trade and organic-certified cooperatives led by women in East Africa. It’s soft and fluffy texture means it melts easily into the skin providing you with intensive moisture, suppleness and silkiness.

Shea Butter has a tendency to become ‘gritty’ when going through temperature changes. This does not reflect on the quality and the Shea will melt evenly upon application. We always ensure when preparing and packaging your Shea that the texture is as smooth as possible.
